The Core Essentials "Big 3": Guiding Your Children Toward Success We all strive to equip students with the skills necessary for a successful and fulfilling life. The Core Essentials "Big 3" at ECE offers a helpful framework: Treat Others Right, Make Smart Decisions, and Maximize Your Potential. We restate these values daily and they play a crucial role in shaping our school’s character. Here’s how you can incorporate these concepts at home.
1. Treat Others Right - Model Kindness - Encourage Empathy - Teach and follow “the golden rule” – treat others the way you want to be treated - Example Activity: Create a "Kindness Jar" where family members add notes about kind acts they performed or witnessed throughout the week. Review these together weekly.
2. Make Smart Decisions - Empower children to think critically and choose wisely in everyday situations - Discuss possible outcomes - Ask open-ended questions like, “What do you think will happen if you choose this option?” - Example Activity: Use role-playing to practice decision-making in various scenarios, such as resolving conflicts or choosing friends.
3. Maximize Your Potential - Encourage children to pursue their interests - Foster a growth mindset and a sense of purpose - Celebrate efforts, not just successes - Acknowledge your child's hard work, regardless of the outcome - Foster a love for learning by reading together or engaging in educational games - Example Activity: Have a "Passion Project" where each family member shares something they are passionate about, whether it’s a book, a hobby, or a new skill they want to learn.
By integrating the Core Essentials "Big 3" into your family life, you not only help your child develop essential values but also strengthen your bond as a family. The journey of growth and learning is continuous, and your guidance plays a vital role in shaping their future. Embrace these principles, and watch your children flourish into caring, capable, and confident individuals.
